The Ruchi Sanghi Dance Company (RSDC) is comprised of dancers whose abilities exemplify Ruchi’s emphasis on the technical, graceful and dramatic aspects of Kathak.

All company members have trained in the artform of Kathak as well as Indian folk dance forms.

There are three main Gharanas, or schools of Kathak. These schools are named according to the geographical area in which they developed.

These are the Jaipur, Lucknow and the Benares Gharanas. Each has a slight difference in interpretation and repertoire.

RSDC mainly practices the Benares Gharana of Kathak in Shri Gopi Krishna’s style, but at more advanced levels students are exposed to compositions from all three Gharanas.

Principal Company members have become established artists in their own right, performing to great acclaim.

Their repertoire ranges from the exploration of the rhythms of North India, stories and moving images of the lavish courts of India (Darbar) to the pure dance energy of Taraana.
